CNM/UNM Cooperative Grant

**The STEM UP grant program closed out on June 30, 2017.**

What is STEM UP?

STEM UP refers to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and is a cooperative grant between Central New Mexico Community College and The University of New Mexico. STEM UP’s vision is to address the national shortage of STEM professionals by increasing the number of New Mexicans succeeding in these fields. STEM UP works towards increasing the overall number of students thriving in STEM fields, particularly those from Hispanic backgrounds and/or low-income households – as a means of supplying the market’s needs for specialized professionals and fostering a more diverse workforce.

STEM UP is funded by the U.S. Department of Education under the Title V initiative for $3.5 million dollars to further promote educational excellence in Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI). STEM UP connects students to people and resources to encourage, facilitate and support educational pathways for students majoring in STEM fields.

Our Mission

Through a CNM and UNM Cooperative, STEM UP provides students with guidance, support and an academic pathway for STEM graduation.

Our Goals

  • Increase the number of Hispanic and low-income students obtaining degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics
  • Develop model transfer articulation agreements between two-year Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) and four-year institutions in STEM fields.
